Construction of a Low-Cost Experimental
Tetrahedral Ambisonic Microphone |
PART CHANGE NOTICE - Posted 21-December-2013
|
In early 2013 I received notice from part supplier Digi-Key that
the WM-55A103 microphone capsule has been removed from the Panasonic
product line. Digi-Key suggested the PUI Audio AUM-5247L-R
(Digi-Key part number 668-1321-ND) as a replacement part.
I purchased several of the PUI Audio capsules and can report that mechanically they appear to be identical to the Panasonic part except for a slightly different color of the printed circuit board used for the solder connections on the back. Sonically there is no discernable difference between the Panasonic and PUI Audio capsules. I determined this by making several simultaneous recordings of outdoor environments in a small town environment northwest of Austin, TX. Obviously, microphones cannot occupy the exact same space at the same time, but a Panasonic capsule and a PUI Audio capsule worked well as a stereo pair. The PUI Audio part appears to be an acceptable, if not identical, replacement capsule. In December, 2013, Mouser Electronics sent notification of part number changes of several Kemet capacitors used in Exp2. These are only updates in the part number, not of the product. |
